The Collapse of Canada’s Health Care System
On the night of April 15th, 2011 (tax day in the US) I had a dream in which Canada’s very successful public health care system failed. Patients tried to visit doctors to get prescriptions filled, but they were turned away because there was no money to pay for services. I don’t recall exactly how the bankruptcy occurred, but I knew the health care system had run out of money.
People contacted the government and complained, but the government denied there was a problem. In the dream, I knew the government was aware of the financial problem, but they feared the consequences of admitting to a failure, so they lied to the people as long as they could.
I’ve been having more dreams like this lately; where I see the catastrophic failure of large organizations that people depend upon. I believe these dreams portray changes in the financial climate which we’ve already been seeing for several years. In this dream, the cause of the failure of the healthcare system was financial. The Canadian government could no longer fund its healthcare program because of a lack of tax revenue.
I’ve been studying the financial health of the nations of the world, trying to identify those that are at risk for economic collapse. Several nations are in serious financial trouble right now; the US and the UK are the most worrisome. Canada does not appear to be in economic danger right now. While the US and the UK might easily run out of cash to pay for public healthcare, if it happened to Canada, it would come as a surprise to everyone.
Let me say that another way:
It would take an extremely severe (and probably a global) economic depression before Canada could not afford its healthcare program.
I think we need to ask ourselves a question:
“If a nation like Canada is headed for difficult financial times, how will the rest of the world will fare?
The prophet Jeremiah asked a similarly pointed question:
“If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, Then how can you contend with horses?” (Jer. 12:5)
The dream speaks about the magnitude of economic difficulties that lie ahead. As difficult as things have been already economically, it seems like they will become even more challenging. There is a season of extreme financial hardship coming for the governments of the world; even ones like Canada, which are on a solid financial footing today. The situation will be so perplexing it will cause them to deny the facts, fearing what citizens might do if they knew the truth.
I do not see these events as a form of judgment from God. I see them as a path to freedom. The nations of the world have become enslaved by a financial system that is draining their lifeblood. People like you and I are finding health care less affordable each year. A few individuals are benefiting greatly from the sky-high cost of health care. They’re making a killing at our expense.
I believe God has a plan to end our dependence on expensive (and often wasteful) healthcare programs. There was reasonably good health care available a generation ago, before it fell prey to politicians and drug company tycoons. I believe we will once again see affordable health care. But getting back to where we were decades ago will be a major adjustment and there will be chaos during the times of change.
One thing we can do to prepare for the unsettling days ahead is to get trained and equipped to heal the sick through the power of God. Today, most of us are reliant on government-run healthcare programs instead of God’s healthcare program, which was modeled by Jesus. Healthcare needs are easier to deal with when you’re able to heal the sick consistently. If you’re not doing that now, this website is dedicated to teaching you how to do it.
