Responding to a Controlling Spirit
A person that is under the influence of a controlling spirit will love you only to the extent that you’re willing to be controlled by them. A person that will only accept you when you are like them, when you agree with them, or when you’re willing to follow after and praise them, is under the influence of a controlling spirit.
You can see how this spirit operates by observing the way those who are under its influence try to control the thoughts and behavior of others. The goal of this spirit is to create uniform thinking and behavior. Non-compliance is met with ridicule, punishment, or shame.
A person under the influence of a controlling spirit uses threats and intimidation to create fear in others so they will conform to their expectations. This spirit uses division to its advantage. Those under its control will demand that we take sides on an issue that is unimportant or create a perceived crisis and expect us to endorse their solution. It will spread gossip and lies about an individual, and demand that we take a stand against this person. The controlling spirit divides people who would otherwise be united. It is destructive in all that it does and it will stop at nothing to get its way.
The shield that guards our hearts against the work of a controlling spirit is the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Our defense is cultivating in our hearts love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, gentleness, long-suffering, and self-control. Since the goal of a controlling spirit is to manipulate people into following prescribed patterns of thoughts and behavior, the best way to defeat it is to demonstrate freedom of thought and freedom of action as they are expressed through acts of unconditional love.
We all should realize that trying to control or manipulate someone is a form of “witchcraft”.

Controlling spirit are disempowred by freedom and by Love and by Truth, they have to bow down to Jesus !!
This is exactly where and what my kids and I are dealing with now and controlling spirits are the worst, most oppressive spirits I / we have ever experienced!!!! It is GREVOUS, and brings deep sorrow and captivity to all!! There are MANY professing Christians who are completely dominated by them, as we can attest. Our ceiling collapsed at home, and because of added trauma and complete loss of everything, we have been in their grips and at their complete mercy for 1 and half months, to have a roof over our head. and they are family. They can be very tricky and they brainwash and attempt to brainwash and seize all freedom and liberty. They want to KILL and destroy you, keep you in chains. It is detestable, making one despair even of life itself!!!!And the more inferior position you are in, whether it be financial or whatever, the more they grow and the greater they attack, looking for whom they can DEVOUR!!
I really needed to read this today. This describes my boss at where I work. I have just been waiting for the moment to go off on her, and let her know what a bad person she is. After reading this though, I realize that is not the right move, especially if I want to show Christ to her. The next time she is ugly to me, in her passive aggressive way, I am going to show her unconditional love. That really resonated with me when I read it, and an image of me hugging her came to mind. Thanks for sharing!! Many blessings ❤️
I see you’ve met my wife?? ROFLMAO, 😉
You can keep her. 🙂
Amazing analogy comparing individual relationships with the current political/social environment we are currently experiencing. Fear mongering, wrap-around smear campaigns etc.
God Bless you Brother ??✨?✨??
This is my mother to a T. I’m 61 and she is 91. This controlling spirit has been on her back since I was about 7 or 8. I would love to see you write more on this topic when the person you are dealing with is someone you cherish and look up to — or that you WANT to cherish and look up to. The extraordinary challenge is that you know the person’s great qualities and beautiful talents are there, although they are hidden away except for occasional tiny glimpses. So you try to relate based on the person’s finest traits, but as the decades wear on the person sinks lower and lower until the controlling spirit becomes physically visible in their appearance. The agony is that as you try to relate and share yourself with the person, the punishment for expressing a single errant thought in their presence is swift and total “excommunication” and banishment from relationship. This becomes even more painful when other people close to the occupied person align against you because, perhaps, they have become controlled by the same evil spirit… What to do? Give the whole package to Christ, practice self-control and be patient? Try to banish the spirit myself? (yikes) Accept the situation as unchangeable after all these years and let it go? Express unconditional love accompanied by free thinking to keep the spirit at bay and suffer “excommunication,” banishment, ridicule and rejection in response to every kind gesture that includes an independent thought? I’m flummoxed.
What about someone where this spirit operates in a more subtle way? The pattern with this lady is constantly negative; she wants you to be available every day so she can call you. She acts all meek and weak and when you try to pull away you are punished or made to feel guilty because she is suffering so much. I should have recognized it more when her mentor of many years had to block her because nothing ever changed. It got to the point where her heaviness was attacking me, and I would cry and cry until the Lord delivered me out of it with lots of laughter. I felt the heaviness lift from me. I thought there was something wrong with me. You know they say misery loves company. Well, this is stopping for me in Jesus’ Name!! Sometimes you have to let that person or friend go for your own sanity. Those spirits find your weak spots and work on it that is why we must have the armor on all the time day and night and pray for God to cover us with the blood of Jesus.
