Emergency Preparedness and Off-Grid Communication – Now Available!
As a career paramedic, I’ve been involved in emergency preparedness since the 1990s. Recently, I became a licensed amateur radio operator. I never expected to write a book on either subject. But lately, government officials have been warning about an increased risk of cyber-attacks that may cause power and internet outages—subjects about which God has been speaking to me for several years. In November, at the urging of friends, I began writing a book on emergency preparedness and off-grid communication. Today, that book is available for purchase.
The book discusses subjects such as mentally preparing for a crisis, situational awareness, storing food and water, securing your home, developing a bug-out plan, emergency first aid, personal hygiene, backup power options, home security, self-defense, surviving nuclear war, thriving during an economic collapse, and living under martial law. There’s even a chapter on how to navigate without GPS.
While the first 15 chapters deal with subjects commonly found in books on preparedness, the second half of the book outlines the options available for communicating when cellular and internet services are unavailable, and the power grid is down. Here are a few of the communication topics that are covered:
Shortwave radio
Satellite communication
Two-way radios that do not require a license
Meshtastic and low-power, long-range (LoRa) radio
Building and testing antennas
Digital radio communication
AREDN mesh networking
Communication security
Amateur radio
GMRS radio
Encryption
If you’d like to communicate with friends and family during a grid-down event, this book is the road map you’ve been looking for.
